SRINAGAR, Apr 21: The J&K Civil Engineers’ Graduate Association (JKCEGA) today expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for “timely intervention” in addressing a critical administrative issue in the Jal Shakti Department (JSD).
In a statement, the association welcomed the Government’s recent decision to relax qualifying service requirements for the posts of Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer.
The move, JKCEGA said, has enabled the promotion of 25 Executive Engineers as in-charge Superintending Engineers and cleared the way for appointments to long-vacant Chief Engineer posts.
“This exceptional step, taken in the public interest, showcases the Government’s commitment to good governance and responsive administration,” the association said.
The decision, approved by the Chief Minister along with Jal Shakti Minister Javid Ahmad Rana and the cabinet, as per JKCEGA, is expected to strengthen the engineering cadre and speed up developmental works.
The association also acknowledged the role of Additional Chief Secretary, Jal Shakti, Shaheen Kabra, in ensuring smooth procedural clearances.
JKCEGA said the move will ensure continuity in the planning, execution, and supervision of key water supply and irrigation projects across J&K.
“With these promotions, the department will be better equipped to deliver efficient public services and meet developmental targets without delays.”
The association added that the decision would boost the morale of the engineering workforce and inspire confidence among officers working to upgrade infrastructure and public utilities.
JKCEGA reaffirmed its support for the Government’s vision of a well-managed and efficient public works infrastructure and assured full cooperation in implementing development projects on the ground.
