SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Khaniyar, Ali Mohammad Sagar, has appealed to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reinstate public holiday on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on December 5.
In a statement, Sagar hailed Sheikh Abdullah as an unparalleled leader whose contributions to the social and political fabric of Jammu and Kashmir remain pivotal.
Describing Sheikh Abdullah as a transformative figure in the region’s history, Sagar emphasized that the late NC founder played a critical role in awakening the people of Jammu and Kashmir from centuries of oppression.
“Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a beacon of hope, standing firm against despotic rule and championing the cause of dignity, social justice, and democratic rights,” Sagar remarked.
He further highlighted that the sacrifices and relentless efforts of the NC leader helped bring an end to feudalism and paved the way for a more just and prosperous future for the region.
Sagar noted the enduring relevance of Sheikh Abdullah’s legacy, citing the recent elections as evidence of the National Conference’s continued resonance with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He argued that reinstating December 5 as a public holiday would not only honour the leader’s monumental contributions but also acknowledge the sacrifices made by the people in strengthening democratic institutions.
“Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah continues to be a guiding force for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. His vision and principles remain a compass for the region’s prosperity. Neglecting his legacy is akin to denying the sunlight that brightens the darkest days,” Sagar said.
In his appeal, Sagar urged the Government to act swiftly and reinstate public holiday on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
