Responding to a question on the rehabilitation of houses destroyed during the recent shelling, Sadiq said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is personally overseeing the damage assessment in affected border districts such as Poonch, Rajouri, Surankote, Udhampur, and Keran. “The priority was to save people first. Now, the damage assessment is being finalized, after which relief work will begin soon,” he added.
On the opposition’s demand for a special Parliamentary Session, he said, “Opposition parties have the right to demand a session, but our focus right now must be on rehabilitation.” He added, “We hope the Government of India will provide the necessary assistance to support these efforts.” At a review meeting in his Zadibal constituency, Sadiq stressed the need to address pending civic issues, stating, “We need to urgently work on city roads, macadamization, lanes, drains, and shortages of water and electricity.” He also highlighted the importance of the area, which “includes major lakes such as Dal Lake, Nigeen, Anchar Sar, and Khushal Sar, along with prominent hospitals and religious shrines including Hazratbal, Mukhdoom Sahib, Imam Bara, Gurdwara and Mandir.”
On the delayed macadamization project, Sadiq expressed optimism, saying, “The project will start soon once the pending CAPEX funds are released. Finance Minister Omar Abdullah has worked hard during budget preparations to secure these funds, which many MLAs have demanded for macadamization.”
Discussing tourism, a key sector in Zadibal, he acknowledged its recent setbacks: “Houseboat owners and taxi operators have suffered heavy financial losses due to the disturbances. We are in talks with the Houseboat Association and plan to engage tourism stakeholders for relief and rehabilitation,” he said.
