JAMMU, Feb 2: Three-week Refresher Course for teachers in Physics, being organized by UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) and Department of Physics, University of Jammu, began this afternoon at the JU.
Around 35 teachers from various Colleges and Universities from within and outside the State are participating in the Refresher Course.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the Refresher Course, Vice-Chancellor JU, Prof R D Sharma said that teachers act as the catalysts and prime movers for the all-round development of the students and for this academic development of the teachers is crucial and necessary. He also asked the teachers to raise the standard of their professional competency to a high level so as to impart quality knowledge to the students which he said can be achieved by focusing on quality of research, participation in national and international seminars/ workshops, faculty exchange programs, up gradation of qualifications, paper/ book writing and collaborating with fellow researchers in other higher educational institutions.
Prof Sharma further asked the participating teachers that such courses should not be taken only as eligibility criteria for career advancements but should also be used for getting acquainted with the latest techniques and pedagogy available in teaching so that the students are benefited.
Prof Naresh Padha, Director, HRDC, in his address, said that these types of courses provide the participants an opportunity for interaction among themselves in addition to getting themselves updated in their concerned area. He also asked the teachers to make proper use of the training programme aimed at the faculty development and also to get benefited by the pioneering work done by the intellectuals and the resource persons.
Earlier in his welcome address, Course Coordinator, Prof Vivek Gupta, Head, Department of Physics, JU, outlined the course contents that will be taken up during three weeks.
Later, Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director, UGC HRDC presented the formal vote of thanks.
