RCI sponsored workshop concludes at MIER

JAMMU, Nov 28: A three day workshop sponsored by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) was culminated at MIER College of Education here.
The purpose was to develop awareness and positive attitudes about the rights as well as abilities of the persons with special needs. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD) along with RCI have sponsored training workshops nationwide for key functionaries dealing with disabilities sector of Central and State Governments, local bodies, and other service providers for the financial year 2015-16 and 2016-17.
More than 50 participants including principals and teachers from Government and private schools in Jammu district participated in the workshop.
At the inaugural ceremony of the workshop, Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture was the chief guest. Dr K.R. Arya, Chairperson, North Zonal Coordination Committee, RCI was the guest of honor.
In his opening remarks, Prof Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER said that RCI is the nodal agency recognized at the national level that is not only involved in redefining disabilities and spreading awareness but also acts as a regulatory body for different training programs in the field of special education.
Dr Arya exhorted that though much has been done by RCI and other NGOs in the area of special education, still much needs to be done, especially in North India and such sensitization programs are certainly a step forward.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Priya Sethi appreciated the efforts of the institution for taking such initiative and being a pioneer institution in academia for conducting suchlike courses and workshops.
Prof Renu Gupta, Director MIER deliberated upon the need of organizing such workshops for teachers and principals both in the Government and private sector. She also provided an overview of the workshop.
Dr N R Sharma, Dean Academies MIER presented the formal vote of thanks. Dr Rohnika Sharma, HoD Spl. Education MIER College of Education was the program coordinator of the workshop.

Dept., MIER College of Education; Dr. Bharti Tandon, Asst Prof. MIER College of Education;  Rajendra Praveen, Asst Prof MIER College of Education and Harika Singh, Incharge Inclusive School-Model Academy were the resource persons at the workshop.
At the valedictory ceremony, Dr. Sushma Sharma, Prof. Dept. of Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was the Chief Guest. Dr. N.R. Sharma, Dean Academics MIER was the Guest of Honor. Dr. Annie Koul, HoD B.Ed Gen. MIER College of Education formally welcomed the dignitaries, resource persons and the participants.
