JAMMU, Mar 26: Provincial president of National Conference (NC), Rattan Lal Gupta, has reiterated the urgent need for restoring full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, calling on Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to fulfill the commitment made to the people in Parliament.
Addressing a delegation from Kamal Danda, a remote area in district Udhampur, at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu, Gupta reminded that both PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured the people of J&K that Statehood would be reinstated. He emphasized that the recently concluded Assembly elections reflected a massive mandate in favor of the NC, with people placing their trust in the party to advocate for the return of full-fledged Statehood.
“The time has come for the Prime Minister to honor his promise. The people of J&K feel betrayed by the delay in restoring Statehood, as its absence has deprived them of their democratic rights and the power to shape their own governance,” he asserted.
During the interaction, the delegation from Kamal Danda highlighted several pressing issues, including acute drinking water shortages, erratic power supply, and lack of transportation. They expressed frustration over the previous Government’s failure to address these fundamental needs, making life difficult in remote areas. Gupta assured them that their grievances would be raised with the concerned authorities at the earliest.
Reaffirming NC’s commitment to the people of J&K, Gupta stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the party remains dedicated to ensuring justice, equitable development, and the restoration of constitutional rights. He stressed that only a democratically elected government with full Statehood can effectively tackle the challenges faced by the people.
Several senior party leaders were present during the interaction, including Vijay Lochan, Pardeep Bali, Tejinder Singh Aman, Mohinder Kumar Rana, Jaseen Malik, Mohd Farooq, Thakur Dass, Anyatullah, Vijay Kumar, Naresh Anthal, Suram Chand, Sapana Devi, Anchal Kumar, Anita Kumari, Meena Devi and Advocate Shubam Khajuria.
