Hopes have been built high in respect of the prestigious 850 MW Ratle Hydro Electric Power Project for a smooth execution and within stipulated timeframe as a result of an agreement having recently been inked between the Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation limited (RHPCL) and Mega Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) . Such an agreement having been signed in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assumes importance in the background of how urgently , if not desperately, more power generation and distribution thereof in power deficient Jammu and Kashmir is required . Ratle , a run-of -the- river power project – had many a hiccup to face right from its conceiving to its construction including series of objections raised by Pakistan under the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty , to finding out a joint venture for execution , signing of various MOUs including the one in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the like which resulted in causing considerable delay to the important power project in getting kick-started.
With the present development of the signing of an agreement which the Lt. Governor rightly termed as historic move , can the people of Jammu and Kashmir finally hope that the UT will be fully power sufficient , needs to be taken note of with all strength and positivity by the concerned authorities coupled with austere and close monitoring with frequent periodicity so that the pace of execution process picks up to compensate for the loss of many years in clearing various humps in the way of this prestigious power project.
