JAMMU, Aug 28: Doctors at Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission (SVMM) Hospital, Jammu, have successfully carried out a complex vascular malformation procedure on an eight-month-old child, who was diagnosed as a case of giant infantile hemangioma of the upper lip.
The surgical team that performed the rare and challenging procedure comprised Dr Arvind Kohli (CTVS Surgeon), Dr Rajnish Kumar (Paediatric Surgeon) and Dr Anita Vig Kohli (Senior Anesthetist).
Sharing details of the surgery, Dr Arvind Kohli, Medical Director of SVMM, said that such vascular malformations are extremely rare and the challenges in this case were manifold.
“The infant’s age of just eight months posed risks, especially in terms of anesthesia, peri and post-operative care. The depth of the lesion, which involved almost the entire upper lip, demanded complete excision while ensuring cosmetic preservation. Additionally, the negative blood group of the patient further complicated the case. All these challenges were successfully managed,” he explained.
The management committee of SVMM expressed satisfaction at the successful outcome and reiterated its commitment to providing advanced and cost-effective treatment to needy patients.
Meanwhile, SVMM Administrator, Dr Romesh Gupta, stated that the hospital is steadily introducing thoracic and vascular surgery intervention procedures for the benefit of patients and will continue extending such facilities at the most manageable expense.
