Rapper Badshah apologises to NCW over ‘Tatiiri’ song, to fund education for 50 girls

08CHANDIGARH, April 7: In a significant resolution to the ongoing legal and social backlash surrounding the song ‘Tatiiri’, popular Bollywood rapper and singer Badshah appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Delhi on Tuesday to tender an unconditional apology.
Accompanied by director Joban Sandhu, Mahavir Singh, and producer Hiten, the artist met with NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar following complaints that the song’s lyrics and visual presentation were derogatory toward women.
During the hearing, the Commission expressed grave concerns regarding the portrayal of women in the track, labelling it an affront to their dignity.
In response, Badshah and his creative team assured the panel that such lapses would not occur in the future.
As a gesture of restitution and commitment to women’s empowerment, the rapper pledged to sponsor the educational expenses of 50 underprivileged girls.
Furthermore, he committed to releasing a socially positive track centred on female empowerment within the next four months to promote respect and awareness.
The controversy erupted shortly after the song’s release on March 1, 2024, leading to multiple FIRs in Jind and Panchkula following a complaint by the ‘Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti.’
The legal pressure intensified when the Haryana State Commission for Women previously sought the rapper’s arrest and passport seizure after he failed to appear personally for a summons in Panipat. Although the song was subsequently removed from YouTube and a scheduled promotional show in Mumbai was cancelled, Badshah had joined the police investigation in Panchkula nearly three weeks ago, where he was granted bail.
Addressing the matter, Badshah reiterated his deep roots in Haryana and maintained that he never intended to offend the sentiments of women or children. His legal representative, Akshay Dahiya, confirmed that the artist is dedicated to using his platform for social good moving forward.
The production team also noted that the rapper is already involved in various charitable activities but will now focus specifically on creating content that upholds the dignity of women, starting with the upcoming empowerment-themed project. (UNI)
