JAMMU, Nov 1: Jammu & Kashmir ended day one of their Elite Group-A Ranji Trophy clash against Chhattisgarh on a strong note, finishing at 195 for 4, thanks to disciplined half-centuries from opener Shubham Khajuria and captain Paras Dogra, along with a resilient contribution from wicketkeeper-batter Kanhaiya Wadhawan.
After being sent in to bat on a testing surface, J&K faced an immediate setback as pacer Ravi Kiran removed openers Qamran Iqbal and Yawar Hassan for ducks in a fiery new-ball burst, leaving the team reeling at 0/2. However, Khajuria and Dogra steadied the innings with a composed partnership that frustrated the bowlers and gradually rebuilt the scoreboard.
Dogra’s 59 off 139 balls, studded with 10 boundaries, showcased controlled aggression and leadership before he fell at 120. Khajuria then took charge, playing a marathon 78 not out off 206 balls, featuring 12 elegant fours and a six, anchoring the innings. Lower down, Wadhawan added an unbeaten 31 (75 balls, 3 fours, 1 six), helping the team reach a competitive total.
For Chhattisgarh, Ravi Kiran’s early spell yielded 3 wickets for 29 runs in 14 overs, while Ajay Mandal provided crucial support. Despite the early breakthroughs, J&K’s patient partnerships ensured the contest remained finely poised when play was called off due to bad light after 75 overs.
