JAMMU, Aug 27: MLA Bahu, Choudhary Vikram Randhawa, today visited the flood-affected areas of Gorkha Nagar and Har Ki Paudi to assess the damages caused by the recent heavy rains.
The situation in Gorkha Nagar is severe, with over seven feet of floodwater entering homes and leaving two to three feet of mud behind.
Many lanes and houses are buried under thick layers of mud, leaving several families completely devastated and struggling for basic necessities. Children and elderly residents are facing extreme hardships.
During his visit, MLA Randhawa directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to begin immediate clearing operations.
Acting on his instructions, the Chief Transport Officer deployed a JCB machine to remove mud and debris, providing relief to the residents.
At Har Ki Paudi, also badly affected, he assured that cleaning and restoration works will be taken up on priority to make the holy site accessible again.
He urged authorities to provide urgent assistance including food, medicines and shelter, and appealed to social organizations, volunteers and NGOs to support the affected families.
Randhawa assured that he will personally follow up to ensure speedy restoration and relief.
