JAMMU, Dec 29: MLA Bahu, Ch. Vikram Randhawa here today started the work of retaining wall along a nallah using crates in Chaata Panchayat area of his constituency.
Officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and dignitaries from the local Panchayat were also present on the occasion.
The area has suffered extensive damage due to recent floods, causing severe loss to public property and was posing risk to the local residents.
Taking a serious note of the situation, the MLA issued strict instructions to the concerned department officials to immediately prepare estimates for the remaining crate work and complete the same at the earliest to prevent further damage.
Speaking on the occasion, Randhawa said that flood protection and safety of lives and property is a top priority.
He added that he will personally visit every corner of the flood-affected areas of Bahu constituency along with department officials to review the ground situation and to ensure timely execution of all works.
The MLA reiterated that development and disaster mitigation works in flood prone areas of the constituency will be closely monitored to ensure quality and timely completion.
