JAMMU, Jan 30: Bahu MLA, Ch. Vikram Randhawa today launched the rejuvenation work of the Shamshan Ghat at Gorkha Nagar, Bahu Fort, Ward No. 48, by initiating the construction of a waiting shed and protective works.
The programme was held in the presence of the Mandal president along with his team and officials of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
The cremation ground had been completely washed away during the devastating floods last year, causing severe inconvenience to the local population. Taking serious note of the issue, both the Member of Parliament and MLA Bahu had earlier announced financial assistance of Rs10 lakh each from their respective development funds. With the release of the MPLAD fund and completion of the tender process today, the long-pending work has finally commenced.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ch. Vikram Randhawa said that restoring dignity to public and religious places damaged by floods is his moral responsibility and assured that all such development works will be taken up and completed on priority without any compromise on quality.MLA Ch. Vikram Randhawa said that no community should suffer due to natural calamities, and he remains personally committed to restoring damaged civic and religious places with dignity, transparency, and timely execution.
During the visit, the MLA also inspected the nearby Shiv Mandir, which was badly damaged during the floods, and directed the concerned departments to prepare an estimate for its early restoration. He also interacted with local residents, listened to their grievances, and issued on-the-spot directions to officials for early redressal of public problems.
Residents of Gorkha Nagar expressed their heartfelt gratitude to MLA Ch. Vikram Randhawa for his timely intervention, people-centric approach, and commitment towards rebuilding essential civic and religious infrastructure damaged due to natural calamities.
