JAMMU, Feb 11: Saying that the ongoing political stalemate in Jammu and Kashmir has exposed fragility of political forces thrust from New Delhi and Nagpur, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today predicted a snap poll in the State whether a Government is formed by the PDP-BJP combination or not.
“In both the cases, elections are inevitable as the weak combination cannot pull on together for a long, despite deriving their strength from the same source in Nagpur and New Delhi”, Mr Rana said while speaking at a function held to welcome new entrants in National Conference.
He assailed PDP and BJP for testing patience of people, first by raising their expectations amidst polarisation and exploitation and then by ditching them for vested interest and personal ambitions. He said the PDP and BJP duo has plunged the State into a crisis like situation and cross roads of its history, where from exit as of now seems to be quite distant. “The people have realised futility of reposing their trust in the parties which are remote controlled from New Delhi”, he said.
National Conference, the Provincial President said has its roots in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, which constitute source of its strength. “It is a party of Jammu and Kashmir, for Jammu and Kashmir and from Jammu and Kashmir”, he said, adding that the future holds a big promise for the party that has all along stood by the people of all faiths and all the three regions in thick and thin.
Referring to 2014 mandate, Mr Rana said the people had voted National Conference to play the role of opposition which it is committed to perform with sincerity of purpose. He said power has never been goal of the party of the masses, which is why we spurned all options of alliance.
Exuding confidence about National Conference emerging as a big force to establish its premier role, Mr Rana said this will be possible at the strength of its grass root base, support of the people and the work done for equitable development of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. “Never ever has Jammu developed so fast as during the tenures of National Conference”, he asserted.
Welcoming new entrants into the party fold, the Provincial President said National Conference has never discriminated between people on the basis of region, religion, caste or creed. “We have always strived for a just society where opportunities of progress and development are available to all”, he maintained.
Speaking at the function, presided over by a veteran OBC leader Jagdish Raj Sodhi at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan, former minister and State Vice President Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari said that Other Backward Classes form a formidable section of the society and their empowerment and upliftment has all along been the mission of National Conference.
Former MLA and State Secretary Th Rachpal Singh referred to measures taken by the Omar Abdullah led Government for empowerment of weaker sections of society, especially the OBC’s and hoped that their aspirations with regard to their reservations will be satiated in due course of time.
Co Chairman NC OBC Cell Abdul Gani Teli, who organized the function, dwelt in length the contribution of towering leaders like Sher-e-Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah in opening up vistas of opportunities for the weaker sections.
