JAMMU, Jan 23: Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, President of the Criminologists Society and a noted criminologist of the country, has been invited for a record fourth time to participate in the United Nations Crime Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to be held in Abu Dhabi from April 24-30.
The main theme of the high-level UN meet is “Accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law: protecting people and the planet and achieving the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age.”
The Congress will bring together criminologists, policymakers, legal experts and representatives of member states to discuss emerging challenges in crime prevention and criminal justice systems worldwide.
The agenda of the Congress includes four key sub-themes. These focus on building resilient societies with special emphasis on the protection of women, children and youth through education and promotion of a culture of lawfulness.
Another major area is ensuring equal access to justice for all, with the aim of creating safe and secure societies while upholding the rule of law.
The Congress will also deliberate on strengthening data collection and analysis to address new, emerging and evolving forms of crime.
The invitation to Jamwal has been issued by Jo Dedeyne-Amman, Secretary of the Congress.
It is noteworthy that Rameshwar Jamwal has consistently drawn international attention for his innovative ideas on crime prevention and for modifying criminal behaviour through Indian philosophical thought.
His contributions have been widely discussed at earlier United Nations meetings and world conferences, where his work has evoked strong interest among global scholars and practitioners working in the field of criminology.
