JAMMU, Nov 29: Renowned Radio Broadcaster, Ramesh Marhatta has been conferred with Laleshwari Samman by J&K Bhoomi Human Welfare Society at a function organised here, today.
The Samman was presented to him by Dr Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor, Skill University Palwal, Haryana and Dr R L Bhat well known scholar and president Swami Aatma Ram Ji Vedanta Ashram Anandnagar Bohri. The function was organised by J&K Bhoomi Welfare Society in collaboration with Swami Aatma Ram Ji Vedanta Ashram . It was presided over by the president of the Ashram Dr R L Bhat and a galaxy of intellectuals and social activists attended it.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nehru recalled the services of Marhatta rendered by him to All India Radio. He said Marhatta who was kidnapped by terrorists in Kashmir during early days of turmoil in 1990 was kept in captivity for days together and tortured physically and mentally. He was riddled with bullets and dumped into a nallah in outskirts of Srinagar city. However mustering courage he crawled towards a nearby Army camp begging for his life. After giving his identification and army men searching out his identity card got him admitted in Military Hospital Srinagar for treatment wherefrom he was discharged after a prolonged treatment.
Dr R L Bhat and Vijay Kumar chairman Bhoomi said that despite facing threat and atrocities from terrorists Marhatta continued to serve nation as broadcaster in All India Radio and did not hesitate in exposing terrorists and Pakistan for its dirty game plan. They said Marhatta has received awards from various organisations including Harmony India Award which was conferred to him recently. The Laleshwari Samman has been conferred to him for his services as a talented broadcaster and a patriotic who despite facing atrocities by terrorists did not disclose any detail about the AIR programmes being broadcast from Srinagar at that time.
Hira Lal Bhat, representative of Ashram and a socio political activist conducted the stage while IK Raina co convener Abhinavgupt Shaktiveers also attended the function.
