JAMMU, Feb 4: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri today expressed grave concern over the deteriorating healthcare facilities in Jammu, stating that recent surprise inspections of government hospitals have been reduced to mere formalities with no concrete outcomes for patients.
Reacting to reports highlighting the non-functional diagnostic machinery in major hospitals, Raman Suri in a statement issued, said ,”It is shocking that critical equipment such as CT scan and MRI machines have remained defunct for months and even years at premier institutions including Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Super Specialty Hospital, Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital and Chest Diseases Hospital.”
He said, “The MRI machine at GMC Jammu is also not operational, forcing patients, especially the poor and middle class, to seek expensive diagnostic tests from private centres. Despite repeated complaints by patients and attendants, no serious effort has been made to restore these essential services.”
The senior BJP leader said, “A meaningful inspection should involve direct interaction with patients, accurate assessment of ground realities and immediate, time-bound directions for repair or replacement of faulty machinery. Unfortunately, patient suffering continues to be ignored.”
He said the people of Jammu deserve a functional, accountable and patient-centric healthcare system and warned that continued neglect of public health infrastructure will not be acceptable.
Raman Suri further demanded immediate installation of new CT scan and MRI machines, fixing deadlines for restoring all critical diagnostic services and regular monitoring to ensure such negligence.
