SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Senior National Conference leader and former Minister Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan today said that the upcoming Rajya Sabha election is a battle for dignity, democracy and for the rightful voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, a voice that has been missing since a long.
“This election is far more than a contest for seats. It is a verdict on the policies of the BJP, which have systematically disempowered our people, dismantled our statehood and denied us our constitutional identity. Under the false cloak of development, they sold deceit and under the banner of democracy, they practiced authoritarianism,” he said, in a statement, issued here today.
Mr Ramzan alleged that since 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been treated not as a partner in the Union of India, but as its experiment ground ruled by bureaucracy, robbed of representation and stripped of dignity.
“The Assembly elections already revealed the people’s sentiment , a resounding rejection of divisive politics, false promises and manufactured narratives. Now, through the Rajya Sabha election, we have another chance to transform that public sentiment into parliamentary strength to carry the people’s voice back into the national forum, where it must echo with clarity and conviction,” he said.
The NC leader said that this election is about reclaiming what was taken , “our statehood, our dignity, our special status, our rights and our place in the democratic fabric of India.” “It is about telling New Delhi that Jammu and Kashmir will not be remembered for silence, but for resilience,” he added.
Mr Ramzan called upon all democratic and secular forces to come together, setting aside political differences, to defend principles and the very soul of India’s democracy.
“This is not a struggle for political gain, it is a moral movement for collective survival. It is not about positions in the Rajya Sabha, it is about the position of Jammu and Kashmir within the soul of the Indian Republic,” he said.
