JAMMU, July 15: The twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch still remain neglected and discriminated in development and have been ignored in extending the benefits of welfare schemes. This was alleged by BJP senior leader & party incharge for Rajouri-Poonch-Nowshera districts, Kuldeep Raj Gupta while addressing press conference here today.
He said that the people of Rajouri and Poonch districts have right from 1947, suffed on account of the Pakistani intrusions, unprovoked firings and wars as well as the discriminatory attitude of the successive Government in the State. In 1947 alone about 20,000 nationalist people lost their lives in Rajouri, In 1965 proxy war, a large number of people attained martyrdom besides injuries to thousands. The Jana Sangh activists came for help to the people and worked towards maintaining communal harmony as the local administration had totally collapsed, he added.
In rural areas, 20,000 blankets and quilts were distributed by the Jana Sangh activists among the people who got hit by the Pakistani intrusions. He said that more than 2000 Hindus and Muslims have sacrificed their lives after the outburst of militancy in Rajouri district alone.
Gupta said that hundreds of crores of rupees are being spent for developmental works in these districts but on ground no development is visible. The benefits of welfare schemes for BPL families, SCs, STs, OBCs, widows, aged and border people are not reaching the genuinely deserving people, he added.
The BJP leader said that the relay stations of Doordarshan for countering the Pakistani propaganda, which were sanctioned during the NDA rule, have not seen the light of the day. The leaders of the ruling coalition in the State have been befooling the people of these districts on the name of bringing rail line, which is still a dream. He said that the population of only Rajouri city has touched one lakh but there are no basic amenities, no parking lot, no proper playground, no community hall.
