JAMMU, June 22: Reaffirming the party’s unwavering stand, senior National Conference (NC) leader Rajesh Gupta today reiterated the statement of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah, demanding the immediate restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s Statehood.
He accused the BJP led Central Government of going back on its promise to the people of J&K and said, “The Modi Government has given more power to its handpicked administrator, thereby shrinking the space for an elected Government and weakening democratic institutions.”
Gupta expressed deep concern over the governance model currently in place, stating that non locals are running the affairs of the Union Territory, which is alienating the people and eroding public trust.
Highlighting regional challenges, he pointed out that J&K continues to fall behind in infrastructure development, employment opportunities and economic progress.
Gupta urged the Centre to fulfill its commitments and restore Statehood without delay.
“It is essential for restoring democratic accountability and ensuring the voice of the people is heard and respected,” he added.
