JAMMU, Jan 29: Senior National Conference leader Rajesh Gupta called on Dr Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and former Chief Minister, here today.
During the meeting, Gupta briefed Dr Abdullah in detail about the prevailing socio-political situation in Jammu, highlighting growing public concerns, challenges to communal harmony and the need for responsible political conduct to preserve peace and brotherhood in the region.
The NC leader drew Dr Abdullah’s attention to the recent attempts by Shiv Sena (UBT) to communalise the atmosphere in Jammu, terming such moves as deeply unfortunate and against the centuries-old tradition of unity, coexistence and harmony that defines Jammu’s pluralistic character.
He stressed that divisive politics aimed at polarising society for narrow political gains must be strongly resisted in the larger interest of peace and stability.
Dr Abdullah appreciated the concerns raised by Gupta and underscored the need for collective efforts to strengthen unity, mutual respect, and democratic traditions.
He reiterated that the National Conference would continue to play a proactive role in promoting peace, stability and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
