Rains lash Valley after hot weather

Srinagar, Mar 19: After unexpectedly hot weather conditions for the last few days, rain lashed Kashmir today with northern Kupwara district receiving highest precipitation.
Amid cloud cover, night temperatures increased further across Jammu and Kashmir barring the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg.
A Meteorological Department official said that Srinagar received 6.0mm of rainfall and recorded a low of 10.7 degree Celsius against last night’s 8.5 degree Celsius. The temperature was 6.0 degree Celsius above normal for Srinagar during this time of the year.
Qazigund had no rainfall and recorded a low of 9.0 degree Celsius against 7.0 degree Celsius as on the previous night. The temperature was above normal by 5.4 degree Celsius for town where maximum temperature soared to all-time of 27.8 degree Celsius on Friday.
Kokernag had no rainfall either and recorded a low of 10.1 degree Celsius against 8.4 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 6.6 degree Celsius more than normal during this time of the season.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 6.9 degree Celsius against 2.0 degree Celsius last night. The temperature was 6.8 degree Celsius above normal for the place which had 0.2mm of rain.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.5 degree Celsius against 5.0 degree Celsius the previous night. While minus 2.3 degree Celsius is normal for the world famous skiing resort, the temperature was 3.8 degree Celsius below normal. It received 14.2mm of rainfall.
Kupwara recorded a low of 8.1 degree Celsius against 6.2 degree Celsius the previous night. The temperature was 5.0 degree Celsius more than normal for the place which received the highest rainfall of 18.5mm in the Valley.
Leh recorded a minimum of 2.6 degree Celsius against 1.4 degree Celsius previous night while Kargil recorded a low of minus 2.8 degree Celsius.
A MeT official said that scattered light rainfall is expected in Kashmir Valley and mainly dry weather over Jammu division in next 24 hours.
