Rain cold-shoulders cricket action in India, SA test in the city

BENGALURU :  Chances  of play to begin on third day of the second test between India and South Africa, after the second day was washed out due to rain, remained in doubt as rains continued to lash the city today.
Umpires decided to call off play till lunch, and the next inspection was yet to be decided.
Rain continued in the city for the second day today after the first day’s play was not hampered and India quickly seized the initiative.
The city had experienced a week-long rain spell due to systems developing on the Bay of Bengal for the last one week, before toss was taken during the second test  on November 14.
The home team bowled out Proteas for 214 and scored 80 for no loss in reply in the first innings. But with second day being washed out and the same fate awaits on the third day, with further rains forecast for the next two days, the fate of the match hangs in balance at the mercy of weather gods.       The last two days have seen incessant rains across the city.        Today an early call had been taken by the umpires that there will be no play till lunch.
It is bad news for die hard cricket fans in Bengaluru, who assembled in huge numbers, up to 20,000 on the opening day, as weatherman predicted that the city will receive heavy rains today and rains would continue for at least till tomorrow night.
This is in the wake of the low pressure area growing stronger over Bay of Bengal that may turn into deep depression and also develop into a cyclonic storm, weather office officials said here today. (AGENCIES)
