JAMMU, Aug 11: While the heavy rain in Jammu and Reasi areas caused flash flood in seasonal nallahs, the chopper service to Katra Mata Vashnodevi shrine remained suspended due to bad weather today.

Official sources said that rain and thunder-storm in parts of Jammu area, specially its northern Sub Division caused flash flood in several seasonal nallahs, causing disruption in smooth movement of traffic. In some areas of Raipur, Ban Talab, Kot Bhalwal and Nagrota the movement of traffic was affected due to flash in nallahs. Rain also caused water logging in some city areas.
The water level in river Tawi witnessed some rise but maximum water level in the river at Jammu remained below 7 ft. The maximum water level in river Chenab at Akhnoor remained 26.2 ft as upper reaches including Reasi and Arnas witnessed heavy rain and flash flood in the nallahs.
The helicopter service to Mata Vaishnodevi shrine from base camp Katra besides battery car service remained affected during the day today due to rain and bad weather, an official at Katra said.
With the thunder-shower in Jammu areas the temperature experienced sharp fall during Monday evening. It was drizzling in the temple city areas till late this evening. The sky was over cast with thick dark clouds.
A MeT official said that Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 35 deg Celsius, Katra 30.2 deg, Bhaderwah 31.0 and Batote 27.1 deg C today. He said some parts of the region will experience light to moderate rain during next 24 hours.
