Railway Min asks global, Indian players to prepare to bid for 40GW green energy projects

NEW DELHI, Dec 13: Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday asked industry to get ready for bidding renewable energy projects of 40 gigawatt (GW) in the coming two-three years.
“Railways aims at net zero carbon footprints by 2030, and for this plans are laid out in coming 2-3 years.
“Close to 40 GW renewable energy tenders will come out for which I will humbly request the global and Indian participants to be ready for that kind of investment cycle,” the Minister said at a CII event.
Vaishnaw saidthere is increased focus on clean energy in the country to address the climate change fallout.
“We have already reached as a nation 100 GW renewable energy target and on our way to move towards 200 GW as the next milestone,” Vaishnaw said.
Highlighting public investment in the country, the Minister said that an investment of $80 billion was announced in the last budget and significant achievement has happened since then.
“Within the Railway Ministry itself, we are doing a capex of $15 billion and we are on track to achieve this target by mid-March. We have already reached 60 per cent of this target,” he said.
