29JAMMU, Dec 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stepped up its attack on the Congress, alleging that senior party leader Sam Pitroda has exposed the opposition party’s alleged links with what it described as “anti-India global forces,” sparking a fresh political controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s foreign engagements.
In a statement, BJP spokesperson and convener for International Affairs Gaurav Gupta said that Rahul Gandhi’s frequent overseas visits and his remarks critical of India on foreign platforms had earlier raised concerns, but Pitroda’s recent comments had now, according to the BJP, amounted to a “clear admission” from within the Congress itself.
Gupta claimed that Pitroda, who is considered a close associate of the Gandhi family, revealed that the Congress is part of the Global Progressive Alliance (GPA) and that Rahul Gandhi attended a conference in Germany under the banner of this alliance. He further alleged that Pitroda stated Rahul Gandhi is a member of the presidium of the Global Progressive Alliance, while Pitroda himself is also associated with it.
“This suggests that Rahul Gandhi holds a leadership role in a global political alliance whose activities and affiliations raise serious questions,” Gupta said. He alleged that the alliance works in coordination with organisations and agencies that have consistently taken positions critical of India on international platforms.
Gaurav questioned Pitroda’s claim that the Global Progressive Alliance represents democracies from 110 countries, asking the Congress to disclose the names of these countries and clarify the alliance’s objectives. “If there is nothing to hide, why is there ambiguity and secrecy?” Gupta asked.
He also referred to Rahul Gandhi’s meetings during his foreign visits, including an interaction with Cornelia Woll, a member of the presidium of the Central European University, which he noted is funded by George Soros’ Open Society Foundation.
Terming the issue a matter of national concern, Gupta said the Congress must clarify whether it has aligned itself with international forces working against India’s interests.
