Rabid dog attacks 6 children in Kotranka village

RAJOURI, Apr 4: A rabid dog attacked and injured at least six children in a short span of time in Kotranka area of Rajouri district, spreading panic among the community.
The incident has shocked everyone, and villagers are expressing serious concerns about the lack of safety and immediate control measures. The locals said, a stray dog suddenly became aggressive and began attacking people in different parts of the village. Most of the victims were children playing outside their homes or returning from nearby areas when the dog attacked them.
The sudden and unexplained nature of the attacks has raised suspicion that the dog was infected with rabies. All the injured were immediately taken to a nearby government hospital, where they received first aid and anti-rabies vaccinations.
Medical officials confirmed that six children were bitten by the dog. They assured that all necessary measures were being taken to prevent complications. Eyewitnesses reported that villagers were trying to scare the dog away, and protect themselves and their children. Many villagers were locked inside their homes, fearing further attacks.
Villagers have urged the district administration and municipal authorities to take immediate action, including capturing the animal and launching a comprehensive campaign to control the stray dog population. Meanwhile, local authorities have launched efforts to capture the suspected rabid dog. Health and veterinary teams are also being deployed to monitor the situation and prevent further incidents.
