JAMMU, Apr 12: The General Category People’s Front, Jammu Kashmir has said that reservation (Quota) is not a fundamental right as being claimed by some organizations.
In a meeting of the Front held under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia Chairman of the Front, the members discussed in detail various issues being faced by the people.
Addressing the meeting Yash Paul Sharma, president alleged that governments have been promoting caste and class politics thorough reservations playing divisive vote bank politics. Some professions have been named as caste such as Nai, Chir, Dhobi, Kumhar, Lohar, Tarkhan, Bhagat, Chamar etc. Sharma stressed that Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) set up by J&K Government should consider all the verdicts of the Supreme Court of India, delivered on the issue of reservation to frame a relevant legal and genuine strategy ensuring the fair and just implementation of reservation based on the principle of equality & Justice.
All the contradictory provisions of reservation which lead to insufficiency, killing of meritocracy and promotion of second rated standards in jobs and admissions be abolished. To provide reservation to any section of society, the government should collect quantifiable data showing inadequacy of the representation in public service. There is no fundamental right which inheres in an individual to claim reservation. The creamy layer be excluded from reservation to end their monopoly and 50 percent limit should not be breached in any case.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary said that the reservation cannot be forever, now end it. He said that multiple heavy taxes, the highest price rise and unemployment is the biggest cause of super inflation. The rise in price of LPG, petroleum products, like petrol, diesel and manufactured products is double whammy for people. About 84 percent households have suffered a decrease in monthly income especially lower middle class is the worst sufferers. The economic fabric of the country has been damaged to large extent. He also condemned the drastic stringent SC/ST Atrocities Act and demanded a fair check on its misuse to humiliate and harass their opponents to settle their personal grudge.
