JAMMU, Aug 23: While intensifying their campaign in support of implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act, the PYC activists took out rallies at Doda and Budgam and submitted memoranda to the respective Deputy Commissioners today.
In Doda, the PYC leaders and activists led by Udhampur –Doda Lok Sabha president Pankaj Basotra and accompanied by president Bhaderwah Assembly Nadeem Niaz, Assembly president Doda Adil Rangrez and from Ramban Rashid Malik held protest demonstration in support of their demand and then submitted a memorandum to the DC for the Chief Minister of the State seeking immediate implementation of 73rd and 74th Amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act.
Mr Basotra demanded that powers be decentralized at the grass root level. He said strengthening of the Panchayats was must if democracy is allowed to flourish at the grass root level institutions. He further claimed to intensify their agitation.
Another protest rally was taken out by the Youth Congress activists under the leadership of State president Shahnawaz Choudhary at Budgam. Lok Sabha president Sheikh Aamir Rasool and general secretary Manjeet Singh Jatt also accompanied. These speakers criticized RDD and Panchayats Minister Ali Mohd Sagar for misleading people on Panchayat issue. They said CM should come out with white paper if as per RDD Minister’s claim Government has given so much powers to Panchayats. Later, they submitted a memorandum to DC.
