LEH, Nov 13: The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has announced a 50 percent concession in passenger fares for persons with disabilities (PwDs) travelling in both State Road Transport Corporation and private transport vehicles across the UT.
As per a notification issued by the Transport Department, the concession will apply to individuals possessing a valid Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) issued by the Social Welfare Department of Ladakh.
The order further mandates that all stage carriage vehicles registered in the UT must reserve two seats for passengers with disabilities. These seats are to be located at convenient spots, preferably near doors for easy access. In case no eligible passengers are present, the reserved seats may be temporarily used by others, who must vacate them upon the arrival of an eligible passenger.
Additionally, no charges will be collected from persons with disabilities for carrying wheelchairs, tricycles, or other mobility aids during travel.
