JAMMU, Mar 17: BJP spokesperson J&K and former Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma has expressed concern over the inadequate healthcare infrastructure at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
Addressing a press conference here today Purnima claimed that GMC Jammu is currently overburdened in catering the medical needs of residents from ten districts and urgently needs infrastructural enhancements.
“The hospital presently operates with only one CT scan machine and lacks a dedicated trauma centre due to which the patients requiring CT scans face waiting periods up to two months, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatments,” the BJP leader maintained adding that condition of SMGS Hospital in Jammu is also deplorable.
She also said that SMGS Hospital’s infrastructure was severely inadequate, leading to overcrowding where pregnant women, even infants, have been forced to share a single bed, even in critical areas like emergency ward.
Purnima asked the NC Government to address these pressing issues to enhance the Hospital’s capacity and resources to ensure the well-being of paediatric patients.
She said that the Bone & Joint Hospital in Jammu currently offers OPD services only and surgeries are still being performed at GMC Jammu.
The BJP leader questioned the NC leadership for the status of State Health Policy and highlighted several unfulfilled promises made by the NC including the creation of a Medical Trust to provide free insurance coverage of Rs. 5,00,000 per annum for terminal diseases.
Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge, J&K BJP and Arti Koul, Office Incharge, BJP Mahila Morcha were also present in the press conference.
