JAMMU, Sept 19: In the wake of recent devastating floods, Chairman of Trade and Commerce body of NC, Vikram Puri has appealed to the Union Government and the J&K Lieutenant Governor to provide relief to the affected people.
In an interview, Puri said that the collapse of Tawi Bridge stands as a grim reminder of the fragile state of infrastructure and demanded its immediate reconstruction along with rapid restoration of damaged roads, power and public assets.
He pointed out that Jammu-Srinagar NH closure for days together and stranded trucks carrying essentials and fruit are causing losses which run into crores.
Highlighting another critical issue, Puri noted that water supply systems collapsed in large parts of Jammu during the floods due to old and damaged pipelines.
“We need immediate replacement of outdated pipelines, better flood-control measures in low-lying areas and backup systems to ensure safe drinking water in times of disaster,” he said.
The NC leader also demanded a revival package for MSMEs including restructuring of loans, rationalization of electricity tariffs and marketing support for local industries to promote local products nationally.
