SRINAGAR, June 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) today organized a Punjabi Kahani Goshthi at the Conference Room of Tagore Hall, Srinagar.
As per a statement, the event was held under the guidance of Secretary JKAACL, Harvinder Kaur.
It said Dr Joginder Shan Kashmiri, Chairman of Guru Nanak College of Education, Awantipora, was the chief guest on the occasion and the programme was presided over by Mangat Singh Jugnu, President of Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, Srinagar.
Popinder Singh Paras, Editor of Sheeraza Punjabi, shared the dais and welcomed the participants, the statement said.
Paras said that JKAACL aims to provide a platform for young writers and scholars to showcase their talent.
He added that literary events like these promote harmony through storytelling and cultural interaction.
The gathering observed a two-minute silence in memory of Punjabi short story writer Gurdeep Kour from Jammu, who recently passed away.
Several writers including Dr Shan Kashmiri, Rattan Singh Kanwal, R S Rajan, M S Jugnu, Karan Singh Talib and Harpal Singh Pali presented their short stories during the session.
The stories highlighted various aspects of contemporary life and social issues.
Dr Shan Kashmiri praised JKAACL for its continuous efforts in promoting Punjabi and other regional languages across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mangat Singh Jugnu also shared his views and appreciated the literary initiative.
Prominent writers and intellectuals including Harbhajan Singh, Ranbir Singh, Kanwalnain Singh, Jasbir Kour, Manpreet Kour, Devinder Singh and many young writers were present.
The proceedings were conducted by Ichpal Singh, a retired principal, while Popinder Singh Paras delivered the vote of thanks.
