Punjab resident held with around 5 Kg poppy straw-like substance

JAMMU, Feb 28: A Punjab resident was arrested with around 5 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance from Nowabad area here today.
While performing patrolling duty on the road behind the Mandir Masjid point towards 4th Tawi Bridge, a team of Police Station Nowabad noticed a motorcyclist, who tried to flee on seeing the police party, a police official said.
He was, however, swiftly apprehended by the alert cops, and on search of his belongings, 4.915 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession, he said.
Accordingly, the accused, identified as Rajbir Singh of Dhariwal, Gurdaspur, Punjab, was arrested and booked in case FIR number 42/2026 under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Nowabad and further investigation taken up.
Pertinently, the arrest and seizure was made by a police team led by SHO Nowabad, Inspector Vikas Hans, with the assistance of PSI Arjun Choudhary.
