CHANDIGARH, Apr 3: The Punjab Government has officially issued the notification for the ‘Mava-Dheeya Satkar Yojana,’ a flagship welfare initiative aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to women across the state.
This announcement follows the initial proposal made during the state budget presentation on March 8, marking a significant step toward the socio-economic empowerment of women in the region.
Under the finalized guidelines, women belonging to the general category over the age of 18 will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 rupees, while women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category are set to receive 1,500 rupees per month.
To ensure a seamless enrollment process, the state administration has announced that the registration drive will commence on April 13.
Interested applicants can register their details at local Anganwadi centers and government service centers (Sewa Kendras) free of charge. The government has emphasized that the financial aid will be credited directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, ensuring transparency and eliminating intermediaries in the disbursement process.
The eligibility criteria established for the scheme requires applicants to be registered residents and voters of Punjab, possessing a valid state-specific Aadhaar card and voter ID.
Notably, the policy does not place a cap on the number of eligible women per household, allowing multiple qualified members within a single family to avail of the benefits. Furthermore, women already receiving social security pensions are also deemed eligible to apply for this additional financial support, broadening the safety net for the state’s female population.
For the effective implementation and rigorous monitoring of the project, a high-level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.
The government is also considering the deployment of dedicated ‘mobilizers’ and ‘facilitators’ to drive awareness and assist citizens with the registration formalities at the ground level.
Addressing the protocol for unforeseen circumstances, the notification clarifies that in the event of a beneficiary’s demise, the government will not seek to recover previously disbursed funds; however, further installments will be discontinued immediately.
