CHANDIGARH, Mar 11 : The Punjab Congress on Wednesday wrote to the National Commission for Women (NCW), seeking action against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his alleged objectionable remarks against women on the International Women’s Day at an event in Sangrur.
In its complaint to NCW chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, the Punjab Congress leaders accused Mann of making objectionable remarks during a government function held at Sunam in Sangrur on March 8.
In the letter by Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and signed by other MLAs, the Congress leaders alleged that the CM made inappropriate remarks when he was speaking about a female fellow student while sharing anecdotes from his student life.
Earlier in the day, Bajwa sought to bring a condemnation resolution in the state assembly against Mann for his alleged comment. However, the speaker refused to admit it.
On Tuesday, the Congress leaders had written to the Punjab State Women Commission against Mann, urging it to take strict notice of the matter and register a case against the CM for allegedly insulting women.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Ganieve Kaur Majithia said she would approach the NCW, seeking action against Mann over his alleged remarks against women. (PTI)
