SRINAGAR, June 20: Residents of Pulwama town in South Kashmir today heaved a sigh of relief after the closure of two garbage dumping sites along the Circular Road, which had become a major nuisance due to foul smell and unsanitary conditions.
The Municipal Council Pulwama shut down the sites located in Dangerpora and Washbugh following repeated complaints from residents, traders and students. Locals said the decision brought much-needed relief after several reminders to the administration regarding health and environmental concerns.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Municipal Council, Wali Muhammad, said that both sites had turned into public nuisance. “The sites have now been shut and will soon be relocated,” he said.
He also urged residents not to dispose off household waste at the closed locations and warned that anyone found doing so would face a fine.
Meanwhile, residents expressed gratitude for the intervention of the MLA, Waheed Ur Reham Para, and the Deputy Commissioner, calling the move timely and essential for safeguarding public health and the town’s environment.
