Srinagar, Nov 9: Resi-dents of Pulwama district of South Kashmir today sought the reconstruction of two vital bridges in the district that were washed away due to September 2014 floods.
The two bridges at Rohmoo and Gudora were washed away in last year’s floods and since then no reconstruction took place. While as Rohmoo bridge connects Pulwama with Pakharpora area of Budgam district, the Godora Bridge is located on Srinagar-Pulwama bypass.
The local residents of these areas told Excelsior that the concerned authorities constructed diversions in absence of the bridges but they were washed away several times as a result of flash floods.
They said that diversions are in place but are not fit for vehicles and the light motor vehicles suffer chamber damage while crossing them.
It must be mentioned here that Rohmoo diversion was washed away more than four times due to flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Romshi stream this year. The locals said that the authorities should start reconstruction so that they don’t face inconvenience repeatedly.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Roads and Buildings, Zahoor Ahmad, told Excelsior that the work on Gudora Bridge would be started soon. “The funds for the work have been allotted and we will start the work on it soon,” he said. However, he said, the work on Rohmoo Bridge cannot be started as of now due to non-availability of funds. “There are no funds and till then we cannot start work,” he added.
