RAJOURI, July 7: The Rajouri–Thannamandi road, a vital lifeline for thousands of residents in the Thannamandi Sub-Division, has deteriorated into a state of utter disrepair, sparking widespread public anger and frustration.
The stretch, which connects numerous remote villages and supports daily commutes, trade, emergency travel and essential services, is riddled with deep potholes and dangerous craters, making it virtually unmotorable and posing serious safety risks.
Despite its strategic importance, the road has seen no visible maintenance or development work for months. Locals accuse the executing construction agency of gross negligence, alleging that the department responsible appears to be in a deep slumber.
Commuters are bearing the brunt, facing long travel delays, frequent vehicle damage and constant risk of accidents.
“The condition of this road is nothing short of a death trap. We’ve raised the issue time and again, but there has been no serious response from the authorities,” said a local resident. “We feel completely ignored.”
Public representatives and concerned citizens have repeatedly flagged the issue with the district administration and relevant departments, but their pleas have gone unanswered.
With frustration growing, the people of Thannamandi have now made a direct appeal to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging immediate intervention to revive the project and begin blacktopping the road without further delay.
The locals have issued a stern warning to the authorities, stating that the continued apathy towards this long-overdue infrastructure project will no longer be tolerated.
They are demanding immediate administrative action to resume work and bring much-needed relief to daily commuters and the larger population dependent on this critical route.
As the silence from officials persists, the suffering masses hope their appeal to the highest level of governance will finally break the deadlock and restore this essential road to a safe, usable condition.
