Public demands Magisterial inquiry in gang-rape case

RAJOURI, July 26: Agitated over the ‘dubious role’ of  Kalakote police in handling minor girl student’s shocking gang-rape and suicide case, the  public of Kalakote area has demanded Magisterial inquiry into the whole episode and suspension of SHO for favouring accused while the police claimed to have arrested two more accused in connection with rape.
While the dead body of victim, Seema Devi (17), daughter of Raj Kumar was cremated at her village near Kalakote on Wednesday, a large number of people in a meeting held last evening at Kalakote, passed a resolution demanding Magisterial  Inquiry into the matter questioning the role of police, which led to suicide by the rape victim. The people expressed  that they had no faith in the police investigation as SHO, KD Bhagat released the accused teachers on July 21 taking ‘bribe’ through Selection Grade Constable Rajesh Kumar from the accused party. They condemned the role of local police for pressurizing poor girl’s family for a compromise.
L R Sehgal,  uncle of  the accused victim told the Excelsior that incident took place on Friday (July 20) and the girl after reaching home narrated matter to mother. The mother and daughter along with their one relative went to police station and reported the matter to the Station House Officer and ‘Munshi’ on the same evening. The police detained the boys and also kept the girl there claiming that they had to take statement of girl and conduct other legal formalities. The next day girl was sent home and boys were also let off. It was due to negligence and inaction on the part of Kalakote police and SHO K D Bhagat that shell-shocked and helpless girl was left with only option to commit suicide. He said that family was ready to give affidavits for their claim. Mr Sehgal dismissed the police claim wherein it has mentioned that they came to know about incident only after girl committed suicide and reached Sunderbani hospital. He said it is totally false and baseless. He said due to public pressure the accused were arrested.
Mr Sehgal said a letter signed by several prominent persons of the area has been flashed to Chief Minister for seeking his intervention and Magisterial inquiry and an action against SHO. Another complaint has been sent to the National Women Rights Commission, New Delhi.  He also alleged that Netaji Subash Chander Accademy where these accused are teachers and one of them acting as Principal, has registration for Tatapani with School Education department but it is being run at Khadgala (Kalakote) illegally. Again, despite strict orders from DSE, Jammu  regarding summer vacations, this school continued functioning illegally during most of the vacation period.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that two more rape accused  Aurangzeb (32), son of Mohd Iqbal and Iftikhar Hussain, son of Taj Mohd of Balli village have also been arrested. He said two persons namely Mohd Wasim and his father Mohd Zaffar (a Govt teacher) were arrested yesterday.  A girl said to be  an ex-student of this school has also been detained and her role is being examined.      Refuting the reports appearing in media, the spokesman claimed that police came to know about the incident only after girl consumed poison and reached Sunderbani hospital. An Investigation Officer from Kalakote Thana was sent to hospital immediately after Sunderbani police informed about the matter. He however, admitted that an FIR No.45/12 under section 363/376 and 306 was registered on the complaint of  Kamlesh Devi, mother of the deceased girl.
