JAMMU, June 13: Stating that the financial condition of auto, matador, bus and truck drivers, rehri/pheri walas, labourers, momo-makers and factory workers have become bad to worse due to lockdown forced by Coronavirus pandemic, Sham Lal Basson, Councillor, Ward Number 48, has appealed the LG Administration to provide them 4- months free of cost ration as well as financial support.
Addressing a press conference here today, Basson said that at present only people belonging to BPL category has been provided ration free of cost in J&K UT while drivers and cleaners of buses, trucks, autos and other factory workers got nothing and they struggling to make both ends meet.
He said while the COVID-19 cases are increasing day by day but the sanitization process has been slowed done by the JMC. He said there is a shortage of Safai Karamcharis (SKCs) in JMC due to which people are suffering lot while the Corporation failed to recruit SKCs and provide them requisite equipments for cleaning.
Basson also appealed the LG to direct Social Welfare Department to sanction maximum old age/window/handicapped pension cases in this odd time as it will be great relief to them. He further emphasized sanctioning of pension cases projected by each Councillor at an earliest.
The Counicllor also urged the LG to waive off electricity and water bills till the pandemic COVID-19 is not over as people have no work and all business establishments are closed.
