Protests led to closure of wine shop near Iskcon temple

UDHAMPUR, June 2: On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, wine shop near Iskon temple in the town was permanently closed today as people were continuously protesting against opening of liquor outlet near the temple.
Following closure of the wine shop by ETO Udhampur, agitating people lifted their dharna and road blockade this afternoon around 4 pm.
Earlier, agitated over opening of wine shop near Iskcon temple, devotees and locals continued their protest for the third consecutive day on Thursday.
Additional DC had personally visited the spot yesterday and assured necessary action but the shop was again found open this morning following which a large number of devotees of Iskcon, including women and men, assembled in front of the newly opened wine shop and held a massive protest demonstration.
They blocked the Dhar road for several hours and demanded permanent closure of the wine shop near the temple. Later, at around 4pm, the Excise and Taxation Department (ETO) Udhampur closed the shop on the direction to Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Krittika Jyotsna.
