Protests held in Jammu against Manipur incident

JAMMU, July 22: Strongly condemning the inhuman and barbaric act of parading two women by a violent mob in Manipur, various organizations held separate protest demonstrations, here today and demanded severest punishment to the culprits.

Jammu and Kashmir Mahila Congress held a protest against the incident and accused BJP of pursuing anti-women policies. Led by former MLA and Pradesh Mahila Congress president Indu Pawar, Mahila Congress workers shouted slogans against BJP. They alleged that atrocities on women have increased manifold in BJP-ruled States.
Holding the BJP-led Government responsible for failure to address the Manipur crisis in a timely manner, Indu Pawar said the untimely control of violence has brought shame not only to Manipur but also to the entire nation and the world. She alleged that the BJP had made attempts to hush up the incident that reportedly took place on May 4.
Stressing that the country must stand united in condemning such inhumane actions by miscreants and bring justice to the victims, the Congress leader demanded resignation of the Manipur Chief Minister.
Dalit, OBC and Miniority (DOM) Organisation also held a protest to condemn the incident. R K Kalsotra, President DOM lamented that after 78 days of the incident, Prime Minister awakened and showed his pain.
“From the last three months, condition in Manipur was worsening but Central Government has become like a quiet audience. Just because these States are having only 2 MP seats which make no difference for Center Government like UP and others, the Central Govt paid no heed to the situation,” he alleged and appealed to the Government to wake up fully and give justice to the Kuki tribal women.
Alleging that the incumbent Government in Manipur has failed to implement the rule of law, he demanded that the President’s rule should be imposed in the State with immediate effect.
Ashu Peter Mattoo (President All J&K Christian Sabha), Sardar Aaya Singh, Zaffar Paul, Sardar Sukhdev Singh, Ramesh Samral, Shashi Syal, Suraj Parkash, Mohinder Kumar, Vicky Bhatti, John Paul and Sham Bassan also condemned the Manipur incident.
Apni Party staged a protest demonstration over atrocities and rise of sexual abuses against women in Manipur and Rajasthan also demanding resignation of respective Chief Ministers.
Apni Party leaders held the protest at Gandhi Nagar under the leadership of Provincial President, Women Wing, Jammu, Pavneet Kour. They raised shouting slogans against the Manipur and Rajasthan Govts for their failure to curb increasing crime against the women, and incidents of rape.
“The Govt in Manipur has completely failed to control violence for the last over two months, and the brutality against the women which recently came to fore in the shape of a video on social media,” said Pavneet Kour and added that the Govt has completely lost its control over law and order situation and taking moral responsibility, the Chief Minister of Manipur should immediately step down by resigning from the position.
She also drew attention towards several incidents against women in Rajasthan and demanded that the Chief Minister of Rajasthan should also resign taking moral responsibility for what is happening in his State.
Prominent among those who were present in the protest included Provincial Senior Vice President Faqir Nath, Additional General Secretary, Arun Chibber, State President SC Wing, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Apni Trade Union State President, Ajaz Kazmi and others.
Strongly condemning the barbaric incident in Manipur on May 4, Chief Spokesperson BJP Mahila Morcha J&KUT Ritika Trehan has said that Government must award severest punishment to all the culprits involved in the crime.
She said Mahila Morcha strongly condemns the May 4 incident, which not only shocked entire people of the State and the country but also the world. While appealing people to keep strict vigil to prevent such incidents in future, she said Government must take stringent action so such incidents don’t recur in future in the State. Ritika also alleged that Congress-ruled Rajasthan has become a “completely failed State”, with at least 17 cases of rape being registered every day.
