SRINAGAR, Feb 6: Members of the Shia community today held protests at several places across the Kashmir Valley to condemn the suicide attack on Shia worshippers in Islamabad, Pakistan, in which 31 people were killed and 169 others injured.
The attack took place at a Shi’ite mosque in Pakistan’s capital during Friday prayers, triggering widespread outrage and grief.
The protesters described the incident as an inhuman and cowardly act and strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians.
In Srinagar, members of the community assembled at various locations and expressed deep anger over what they termed as continued targeted attacks on Shias.
They demanded an immediate end to such violence and called for protection of religious minorities. Demonstrations were reported from Chainabal Pattan in Baramulla district, Imambara Zadibal and Harwan areas of Srinagar, Inderkote-Sumbal in Bandipora district, and Diver Parihasipora.
During the protests, participants raised anti-Pakistan slogans, including “Pakistan Murdabad” and “Hukumat-e-Pakistan Murdabad,” while seeking justice for the victims and accountability for the perpetrators.
