Protest, shut-down in Gool after ‘killing’ of woman

RAMBAN Mar 5: Following a two-hour shutdown call by Beopar Mandal Gool, the main market here today remained partially closed from 10 am to 12 noon in protest against the alleged murder of a young woman from Mazimkund area.
The shutdown call was given by Beopar Mandal president, Asrar Ahmed after the body of Zahida Bano, 32, was recovered under mysterious circumstances on the evening of March 2.
On this occasion, traders, locals and members of civil society organized a protest rally demanding justice for the deceased.
The rally started from Shah Parking in Gool and moved towards the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Protesters raised slogans demanding strict punishment for the killers of Zahida and staged a sit-in outside the SDM office urging the administration to ensure immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the alleged murder.
Officials from the local administration met the protesters and assured them that appropriate action would be taken soon.
They said that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the crime.
Body of Zahida Bano was recovered on Tuesday from a temporary hutment about 500 metres from her residence in Gool.
SSP Ramban, Arun Gupta said after receiving information about the incident, senior Police officers along with a mobile forensic team rushed to the spot. The body, bearing a slit throat injury, was taken into custody and shifted to Sub-District Hospital Gool for medico-legal formalities and a board of doctors conducted post-mortem on Wednesday, after which the body was handed over to the legal heirs for last rites.
Police have registered an FIR with No. 11/2026 in this regard under relevant sections of law at Police Station Gool.
A Special Investigation Team, headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gool, has also been constituted to probe the case.
