MENDHAR, Feb 15: Residents of Sagra village in Mankot area today staged a protest against the alleged relocation of a proposed Health Centre, blocking the Mendhar-Poonch road for over an hour.
The locals alleged that the Centre, which was originally sanctioned to be set up near Model Academy in Sagra, is now being shifted due to political pressure.
Raising slogans against the administration, the protestors accused Mendhar and Poonch officials of being responsible for the move. They demanded that the Health Centre be established at its originally approved location, stating that shifting it would deprive the local population of essential medical facilities.
On receiving information, police personnel and Naib Tehsildar Mankot reached the spot and engaged in talks with the demonstrators. The officials assured the agitated residents that a resolution would be worked out within three days, following which the protest was called off.
Meanwhile, the villagers have warned of a more intense agitation if their demand is not met. The situation remains tense, with locals awaiting further action from the administration.
