RAJOURI, Nov 26: A strong protest was today led by prominent social activist Murtaza Mirza in Malhut panchayat, where residents expressed their deep anger over water crisis in the area and non-implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) water supply scheme.
Raising slogans, the locals joined Mirza in highlighting the ongoing water crisis, terming it a grave injustice to the community. The protestors said that the failure of the concerned department to operationalize the JJM scheme in Malhut Panchayat has forced them to come out on the roads.
Addressing the gathering, Murtaza Mirza strongly condemned the inaction of the authorities and said that depriving people of such a basic necessity reflects the biggest failure of the department responsible for the scheme. He stated that despite repeated appeals, nothing concrete has been done on the ground, leaving the community in hardship.
Mirza appealed to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abishaik Sharma, to immediately intervene and ensure that the JJM Scheme for Malhut Panchayat is started without further delay. He stressed that the residents of remote regions cannot be left suffering due to administrative negligence and demanded urgent steps to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household.
