JAMMU, June 14: President of Mission Statehood, Sunil Dimple, today led a strong protest on Janipur-High Court Road against the Power Development Department (PDD), showcasing damaged and burnt transformers to highlight the ongoing power crisis in Jammu city.
Dimple accused the PDD of complete failure in maintaining electricity infrastructure, citing overloaded and burnt transformers in multiple areas including New Plot, Rorian Di Chapri, Pir Baba, Jawahar Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Prem Nagar, Sarwal, Subash Nagar, Rehari, Talab Tillo, and Bakshi Nagar.
He criticized the poor-quality cable networks and the malfunctioning of smart meters, claiming several meters on single poles have burnt out. Despite promises from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for 24×7 power supply, Dimple said unscheduled cuts continue unabated. He claimed both the Janipur (132 kV) and Manda (33 kV) grid stations are outdated and need urgent upgrades.
Dimple also raised concerns about the acute drinking water shortage, demanding the launch of the Chenab project to supply water from Akhnoor and provide clean drinking water twice a day.
He urged the Government to provide 200 units of free electricity to all consumers and warned of intensified agitation if prepaid smart meters are not rolled back.
