RAJOURI/ POONCH, May 21: The people held strong protest against the water and power crisis in Kalakote area of Rajouri and Harni area of Mendhar in district Poonch today.
Reports from Rajouri said that villagers from Beragua and adjoining hamlets came out on Rajouri-Kalakote road and staged dharna today. A large number of women and children also joined them. They were shouting slogans against the PHE authorities for their failure ensure smooth supply of drinking water. They said that during these hot summer days, PHE authorities have failed to provide water to the public. Moreover, prolonged power cuts have made life of people horrible. They blocked road for more than an hour. Later, SHO Kalakote Mohd Iqbal Choudhary reached the spot and assured the agitating people to take up the matter with the concerned senior officers. Then people lifted dharna.
Similar protest demonstration was held at Harni under Gursai police jurisdiction by the people of the area. The agitating villagers blocked road and stalled the movement of the vehicle from 1 PM to 4 PM. They were shouting slogans against PHE and PDD authorities for the acute shortage of water and power supply. The villagers alleged that for the last one month, the water supply has been badly hit moreover, long power cuts have made life of the people hell.
Later, SHO Gursai Mohd Amin and AEE PHE Mendhar arrived there and assured the people to improve the services. The agitating public then lifted dharna from the road. Movement of the vehicles was disrupted for about three hours on this road.
