RAJOURI, Jan 23: Accusing the police of not taking proper action in the kidnapping and rape case of a minor girl belonging to minority community in a village falling under Kalakote sub division of Rajouri district, people protested against the police today and blocked the Rajouri- Kalakote road, raising slogans for hours.
The family members, relatives and people from the area led by leaders of Hindu organizations Chaman Lal Sharma, Rakesh Sharma, Vikram, former Sarpanch Om Prakash came out on the road and started protest demonstration. They alleged that Dharamsal Police tried to hush up the case and favoured accused party.
They pointed out that a minor girl belonging to minority community of a village Syal Sui was kidnapped 3 days ago by a boy belonging to majority community of another village of Kalakote. The relatives of the minority community told the members of the Hindu organizations. They traced their location at their own and informed police. The police then recovered her from Pulwama in the Kashmir Valley and arrested the kidnapper.
The protesters leveled serious allegations against SHO Dharamsal Shabir Kohli and said that after kidnapping the minor, she was also raped and this was also confirmed in the medical examination, but despite that the SHO did not even apply POCSO Act on the kidnapper for kidnapping and raping the minor and entered mild sections to favour the accused party.
The protesters leveled serious allegations against SHO Dharamsal of bribe in the case and protecting the accused and demanded his immediate suspension. The people blocked the road.
DSP Kalakote Surinder Mohan reached the spot and tried to pacify the people, but they did not listen to the DSP and remained adamant on the demand of suspending the SHO.
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Additional SP Vikram Kumar reached the spot and assured the people that action will be taken on all their demands and they will get justice in any case.
A senior officer later said that SHO Shabir Kohli has been attached at ASP office and an enquiry has been initiated into the matter. .After the assurance of ASP, the protest ended after about five hours.
